EQUINE WELLNESS
Treatments
Treatments are conducted on what we call "High Conductive Points." These points are similar to acupuncture points.
Electrodes are used with conductive gel, similar to those used with an EKG. The Acuscope/Myopulse reads the tissue between the electrodes. Settings on the Acuscope (a square waveform) range from 0.5 to 320, or from long waves to short waves. The long waves are for chronic or deep conditions, short waves for acute or inflammatory conditions. Within seconds of beginning the treatment, the patient begins to feel relief as the body produces natural chemicals causing an endorphin release.
The number of treatments depends on the patient. Acuscope/Myopulse treatments are cumulative in the body. If I treat a patient for six days and on the 7th day his body reads within his acceptable range, I will treat for two more days, check him again, then skip the next day, treat every two days, every three days, etc. If he does not hold the treatments, we treat and then continue checking until the tissue "normalizes."
Our goal here is to stay in front of the problem versus behind it. We are re-educating the soft tissue. Hopefully, depending on the problem, the horse can move out to weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and ultimately zero treatments.
Neuro-Muscular/Skeletal High Conductive Points of the Horse
Important Notes!
Animals should not be wet. If they are wet, treatments are not as effective because the whole body becomes conductive and the goal is to have conduction in only the area to be treated.
During this form of therapy, horses are laid up and limited to hand walking ten to 15 minutes each day.
Mares in foal can not be treated. There has been no research to support whether or not this form of treatment would be harmful to the foal, but why go there?
Magnetic therapy should be removed within 12 hours of evaluation or treatment.
Nutritional support is imperative for a speedy recovery.
Horses with systemic diseases such as cancer or tumors should
not be treated with the Electro-Acuscope therapy.
